In the past six years Luke’s worked and ridden at some of Canada’s best known resorts including Big White, Mount Seymour, Sunshine Village, Calgary Olympic Park, Whistler, the list goes on. In the Northern Hemisphere off season he’s done a winter season in New Zealand, a summer teaching English in Japan, made a road trip from Vancouver to Mexico, and another to Nova Scotia, where he’s working this winter.
Luke didn’t find his passion in school, and it wasn’t until he was 14 and visited Pontypool Ski Centre for a snowboard lesson that he stumbled upon his dream job. He quickly picked up skiing and snowboarding, having lots of the right skills from years of skateboarding. The next step was to train as an instructor and Snowsport Wales offered to perfect way to get started with weekend training courses held at slopes all across Wales and the UK. Luke took his training courses in the Autumn, volunteered and trained at Pontypool through the winter, and passed his assessment in the spring.
He honed his skills over the next few years working with the highly qualified team at Pontypool, many with international certifications and several seasons worked abroad. He combined a few winter holidays with training courses and then headed out west with all the qualifications he needed to land his first instructor job with a sponsored visa.
