To start this process Snowsport Cymru Wales have embarked on a project to carry out an audit of existing facilities in Wales, gathering information upon:
- what is currently on offer for all snowsport activities
- what provision the centres have in place for freestyle ski and board
- needs of staff development as instructors and coaches
- plans for development of facilities over the next 5-10 years
It is expected the audit of facilities will be completed by the late autumn of 2016. Once complete we will use the data as a mapping document to help facility operators in funding applications (where appropriate) to activate the changes.
We are aware there have been a number of discussions with regard to the development of indoor snows facilities in Wales. Snowsport Cymru Wales are keen to pursue the development of such facilities however with project costs in the region of £50m significant progress would need to be made to develop such a facility. We are of the view that any indoor snow facility in Wales should be of national significance to the UK as a whole and should be built as a centre of excellence to ensure its sustainability for the next generation.
Snowsport Cymru Wales would welcome the views of its membership in the development of existing or new facilities. If you want to have your say and have any great ideas please email the Chief Executive, Robin Kellen firstname.lastname@example.org.
