It's My Sport, My Dry Slope

June 29, 2017

We are aware that grassroots snow sports in the UK invariably revolves around artificial snow or dry slopes, but that doesn't just have to be the beginning, it can be a life-long love affair!

We're keen to feature people making use of their local dry slope on a regular basis. We want to hear from a diverse background of users from across all disciplines (Ski, Board, Nordic, Disability) young and old. It would be great to have stories from recreational participants, instructors or coaches, competitors and people who work in the sport.

This is the rather fantastic Morgan Boscan-Williiams' Dry Slope Story! He's got some great ideas! If you like what you read and have a story of your own you'd like to share please email marketing@snowsportwales.net.

Tell us a bit more about yourself.

I am nine years old and I live in West Wales. I love to Ski and Snowboard. I also enjoy playing Rugby, football, cricket and mountain biking with our dog Benje.

Which slope do you use?

Urdd Centre Llangrannog.

How long have you been using dry slopes and how often do you go?

I have been skiing for two seasons and snowboarding for one season. I go twice a week in the winter time.

What do you when you are there?

I listen to my Instructors to improve my skiing and snowboarding and I like doing jumps.

Why do you go to your slope?

Fun exercise, fresh air and making myself better, and I love to ski on the dry slope with my friends.

What does your dry slope mean to you?

My Instructors make skiing fun and exciting. Being able to do skiing so close to the sea is amazing.

Do you have any specific ambitions?

Being able to go to a snow park and do some tricks.

Do you have any role models in the sport?

I enjoyed the film Eddie the Eagle especially.

Is there anything else you want to add or say about dry slope skiing or boarding?

If I ever get a lot of money I would love to make my slope bigger and better and have some more jumps. I would like to take my Instructors on holiday with me. Everyone should try skiing once in their lives.
