New SSW Board Directors

Our 2016 EGM in North Wales resulted in the appointment of five new Discipline Directors on the Snowsport Cymru Wales board. These new appointments will help in the development of their particular discipline in Wales, forming volunteer committees to assist in this purpose.
We wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to our new Discipline Directors as well as remind you of the roles our other board members...
Ian Fawcett - Chair
Ian has been involved with the governing body for snowsport in Wales for nearly 20 years. Now qualified as a coach and helping to develop the next generation of instructors and leaders for the NGB in his role as a tutor, Ian started off his involvement with snow sports in Wales as an instructor on artificial slopes and as a school teacher organising skiing trips abroad. Ian has chaired the board of directors of Snowsport Cymru Wales for the past six years.
Richard Hyett - Vice Chair
Richard has been on the board of directors for three years in his role as Vice Chair. His involvement in snow sports started through his role with Cardiff Ski Club where he has been Chair for the past four years and through his commitment to volunteering at ski racing events. Richard’s daughter is also a member of the Wales Ski Team.
Mark James - Finance Director
Mark is a life long snowsports enthusiast having been introduced to the slopes as child. Mark’s involvement with the NGB comes through his experience as Managing Director of a garage and vehicle hire business in South Wales, he is also a qualified accountant. Recently Mark decided to test his skills on the slopes by taking up ski racing and competed in a number of events on dry slopes.
Nick Roe - Alpine Director
Nick has been involved with snow sports in Wales for a number of years, initially as an instructor training and qualifying on the artificial slopes and then in the past five years gaining his coaching qualifications. Nick has been on the board in the previous term standing as membership director. He coaches at the West Wales Ski Club and in his role as Alpine Director will be seeking to establish a committee with representatives throughout Wales helping to continue to develop the alpine skiing pathway.
Peter Harris - Disability and Inclusion Director
Peter has helped develop and establish disabled skiing in Wales one the past decade, with help from his colleagues they have created a training manual and ensure regular and developing activities through a number of centres. Peter is a qualified instructor and a tutor for disability ski instructors in Wales. In his role as Disability and Inclusion Director he will be seeking to develop opportunities for disabled snow sports throughout Wales.
Rob Taylor - Freestyle Director
Whilst Rob is new to the board of Snowsport Cymru Wales he has been well established as a professional freestyle skier in halfpipe for Team GB for a number of years. Rob has competed at European, international and World Cup events in Freestyle in half pipe as well as being a freestyle coach for Snowsport England and judge at many events throughout the UK and Europe. His job on the board of directors is to help develop a pathway in freestyle with regular activity, coaching and comps throughout Wales and to help develop and communicate plans for freestyle. Rob will be establishing a freestyle committee - let him know if you are willing to help put in the time.
David Hughes - Nordic Director
David is also new to the board of Snowsport Cymru Wales. Though his profession is as a barrister, he can often be spotted roller skiing his way to work through the parks of Cardiff. A keen nordic skier, David has a team of nordic enthusiasts who are starting to make some great progress towards establish the sport in Wales. As with each of the Discipline Directors, David’s role is to establish a committee that sets out the basis of participation and pathway for development of their discipline.
Kate Potter - Snowboard Director
Kate has stat on the board of Snowsport Cymru Wales for the past two years. Kate has a huge amount of experience in mountain sports and spent several years living in Chamonix where her daughter Maisie learned her boarding skills. Through the experience gained seeing Maisie progress through the pathway to compete in World Cup, Kate has gained considerable knowledge. Kate is now establishing a snowboard committee to help develop a pathway for snowboarding coaching and events in Wales. She would love to hear from you if you would be keen to get involved.
