Ruth & Tyler Charleston Season Highlights

Llanelli teenage twins, Ruth and Tyler Charleston flew the flag for Wales at the World Winter Special Olympic Games in Austria this winter. They went there with big goals and did not disappoint! 


The girls came away with a total of four medals between them, including two golds! They were the only Welsh competitors from 3,500 representing 1110 countries from around the world. They overcame a lot of setbacks to get to this stage and Wales is very proud of them!

Menna Fitzpatrick Season Highlights

Visually impaired Alpine racer, Menna Fitzpatrick has gone from strength to strength over the past two seasons. She had a phenomenal 2015/16 winter and despite some serious injury setbacks, built upon this success for 2016/17.

Coming off the back of becoming Overall World Cup Champion 2016 in her first year of international racing, it was always going to be a big challenge to maintain that level in her second year. With early season preparations going well, Menna took a high speed fall (50mph plus) in Super G training resulting in a broken hand which resulted in an operation. Not what a racer needs at the start of the season!

Chris Lloyd Season Highlights

Welsh Alpine racer, Chris Lloyd, was injured in an accident in September 2011 and was told that he would never ski again due to a spinal cord injury. This made him determined to prove his doctors wrong and now he regularly represents Wales on the world stage.

Chris’s aims for this year were to consolidate his training and race experience with a view to making qualification standards for the Paralympics in PyongChang.

Luca Mai Hopkins Season Highlights

Welsh freestyle snowboarder, Luca Mai Hopkins has worked incredibly hard this season. This is a great read to find out more about one of SSW's brightest stars and the hard work and dedication it takes to get there.

"My pre-season training started in October for two weeks on the Hintertux glacier, where I competed in the first of the Valley Ralley Tour events placing third. The park was really good and it consisted of two kickers and a rail, I enjoyed this set up, my run was a backside 360 melon grab into the cannon rail with a big air out. I spent November at home back in school before heading back out to Austria in December for the second Valley Ralley Tour at Kaltenbach. Again, it was two kickers and a rail, unfortunately I didn't have a clean run so I didn't podium but placed fourth.

Snow-Camp Coming to Cardiff

Snow-Camp a snowsports youth charity have launched their innovative and award winning programmes in Cardiff!

Using the unique combination of snow sports; life-skills; national qualifications and vocational opportunities, to empower inner-city young people and youths-at-risk. 

Snow-Camp has partnered with Snowsport Wales and Cardiff Ski & Snowboard Centre to offer this amazing opportunity to young people in and around Cardiff.

"This season has been a very exciting season for me as an athlete because of my move up into FIS. It was a difficult step up but I have learned a lot, moving up to FIS meant that I would be skiing on a longer ski and starting right at the back of the field, as I was starting with no points and racing against girls who have been racing for many years in FIS.
