She has a huge amount of experience in mountain sports and spent several years living in Chamonix where her daughter, Maisie learned her amazing boarding skills. Maisie’s progress through the sports to compete at a World Cup level has enabled Kate to gain the experience and considerable knowledge needed for this role. She is now establishing a snowboard committee to help develop a pathway for snowboarding, coaching, and events in Wales. Kate would love to hear from you if you are keen to get involved!

Introducing Ruth and Tyler Charleston

March 13, 2017

Llanelli teenage twins Ruth and Tyler Charleston will be flying the flag for Wales at the World Winter Special Olympic Games starting in Schladming, Austria on March 18th. The girls started skiing with their school, Heol Goffa Special School at Pembrey Ski Slope, which is where they now do the majority of their training, three times a week. Their training also includes endurance cycling rides of 30-miles a week, regular gym sessions as well as skiing with the school and West Wales Ski Club. The girls' handicap of Speech Dyspraxia and global delay has not hindered their ability to ski in any way. Being announced as Olympians is a fantastic achievement for the both the twins and for their foster parents, Ron and Jacqueline Cant and of course their school. They are the only Welsh competitors from 3,500 representing 1110 countries from around the world.

As the winter season comes to a close and the summer season of artificial slope races draws near, there’s always interest in what you have to do to get into the Welsh Ski Team and ski for Wales. This is especially of high interest right now as we’ve seen some excellent results from our British skiers on the World stage and from our Welsh Ski Team athletes in international events for various GB Teams. Each of these skiers started on a pathway programme to success many years ago, and one of the integral steps on the journey to representing Great Britain is being elected to a Home Nations Team. So if you want to follow in their ski tracks here’s some info on what you need to do...
