Athlete Round Up

December 30, 2017

2017 brought it’s fair share of highs and lows for our Welsh athletes competing on the international stage and in local events.

Our heartfelt commiserations go out to Snowboard-cross athlete Maisie Potter. Looking to qualify for team GB at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Maisie made her way out to Val Thorens for the World Cup, being inches away from her Olympic dream. She unfortunately broke her heel in a training run, was hospitalised and awaiting surgery. We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back out on the slopes very soon.

Other athletes looking to qualify for the winter Paralympics are Menna Fitzpatrick (with guide Jen Kehoe) and Chris Lloyd.  Both are currently skiing in the Kuthai  World Cup in Austria. Menna and Jen have gone out all guns blazing, finishing in bronze position in the race on the 20 December, having earned a silver in the race before.

Results a little closer to home saw junior Welsh athletes dominate at the the British Schools Championships at Pontypool in November. Georgia Hyett and Adam Fluck finished top of the podium, with Joe Constantine in silver medal position. Ysgol Eirias’ first team rounded up the podium positions with a bronze in the team event.

It was a very successful year for all our athletes and we can’t wait to see what you guys will be achieving in 2018!
