Luca Mai Hopkins

January 19, 2017

We've previously profiled Welsh snowboarder, Luca Mai Hopkins and her amazing talent on the SSW website, now we wanted to shine the spotlight on her again as she becomes the first Welsh athlete to be sponsored by Cardiff Ski & Snowboard Centre.

Here is all you need to know about what Luca is up to now, in her own words...

"I am fourteen years old, from Gower and I started skiing and snowboarding when I was five on family trips to France. I got my first snowboard for my 8th birthday and when I was twelve my mum took me to a freestyle day camp at The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead. Since then I have been freestyle mad trying to get to Cardiff, Gloucester and Hemel as much as possible on their freestyle nights to practice!

I am so excited to have been asked to join the Why Ain't You Jibbin team in Austria this season with Olympian Kate Foster and GBR coach Steve Addicott. We are training 6 days a week in the Zillertal Valley and travelling to competitions including the Valley Ralley Tour, the World Rookie Tour and hopefully the World Junior Snowboard Championships.

Since arriving at New Year I have been working on my spinning and perfecting my front and back 3s, 5s are next and I am getting used to the pro line jumps. I cannot wait for more powder days to practise my flips and wild cats.

My first World Rookie Tour in Livignio, Italy starts in a few days so I cannot wait, wish me luck!

I am so grateful to the support from Cardiff Ski and Snowboard Centre thank you guys!"
